The second Union Catalogue of Buddhist Texts (UCBT) meeting was held in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, Wang Noi campus, Ayutthaya, Thailand on 10-12 October, 2010, sponsored by the International Association of Buddhist Universities (IABU). The goal of the meeting was to establish cooperation among electronic initiatives related to Buddhism and to work toward producing a Union Catalog of the Buddhist texts. In order to fulfill this goal, 30 members from 16 different countries working on electronic Buddhist texts of four major languages, namely Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese, and Tibetan, gathered to create a Union Catalogue of Buddhist Texts through working on the following tasks:
(1) To link existing electronic catalogs and text files for all the Buddhist canons.
(2) To develop bibliographical information on translations and published academic works in all languages on individual canonical texts.
(3) To provide support for the dissemination of electronic information on Buddhism for the general public.
Miroj Shakya, Convener of the Sanskrit Language Group of the UCBT, and project coordinator of Digital Sanskrit Buddhist Canon Project, University of the West, together with his team, was assigned to catalogue all the Buddhist Sanskrit materials extant in the world. This work has not been done in the past; hence it will be pioneering work for University of the West to lead the group to accomplish this milestone. The meeting has also set the deadline of Dec 15, 2011 for the launch of the UCBT website.
